Qhop?

Qhop?

It's pronounced "chop"

How do I pronounce this?
What's in a name?
Why the Q?
A Non-Latin Q?
Qhop is a reclaimed anachronism bent into a neologism
We take our name from the extant use of the word "chop" to describe the seals and stamps of south and east Asia that were used to mark documents of importance. Originating in the 18th century "chop" was the best approximation at the time of the word "chappa" from Hindi.

We take our name from a set of double meanings for the word "Chop"
In one meaning, we're quite literal, to edit and create media is chop things down and create new meaning and clarity via reduction and correlation.
While most of the world has moved away from the wax seals and ink stamps of the pre-industrial age, we hold a bit of nostalgia for such things, and seek to hold fast to the idea of leaving an imprimatur of quality in our work.

The choice of the letter "Q" may seem curious indeed.
In studying a few languages beyond English, we've gained an appreciation for global perspectives and the evolution of languages and cultures.
In English, the letter Q is primarily pronounced as a "Latin Q" with a "K" or "Kw/Qu" sound, and we wanted to expand the lexical and phonological awareness of another, non-Latin Q, which can have a hard "Ch" sound.
In short: We cut the C, added a Chi, and still ended up at Qhop.
